Wordsound Records has been a fiercely independent record label since 1995, when they released the first of their Crooklyn Dub Consortium: Certified Dope compilations, early players in what was then the ILLbient scene in New York City. Wordsound founder Skiz Fernando aka Spectre, working as a DJ and a journalist at The Source and having recently published the book The New Beats: Exploring the Music, Culture & Attitudes of Hip-Hop (Anchor/Doubleday, 1994), took a loan from his friend Bill Laswell to start the label as an experiment in independent music publishing.

Drawing on hiphop, dub, noise, and whatever other bass-heavy influences they could pull from the Other Side, Wordsound has broken a roster of new acts, often publishing first releases by artists like Prince Paul and Anti Pop Consortium before they went on to major deals with commercial labels. Commercial Wordsound is not: "Because all of our projects are completely produced, directed, and financed by creators, not businessmen, we retain total control over our creations. We are not concerned with hitting the charts, breaking groups, or making hits. WordSound is a guerilla think tank banded together for the purpose of continual creativity..."

Following their 2008 Bass Terror Invasion tour of Europe and stints in Japan, Wordsound founder Spectre aka The Ill Saint, rapper Sensational, and Mentol Nomad will be making Dublin their special last stop on their 2009 European tour. DJ Redmonk will be providing local support.

SPECTRE Known by a gang of aliases-Disciple of the Dark, Overlord of The Underground, Master of Nothing, The Ayatollah of Ebola, Akhenaton The Heretic--the shadowy figure at the center of the WordSound Multiverse is none other than Spectre, The Ill Saint. Hailing from parts unknown, and currently in hiding in his subterranean lair, The Temple of Smoke, Spectre is single-handedly responsible for conducting a campaign of BASS TERROR on the mainstream music industry for well over a decade. Spectre will be showcasing his brand new collab album with Sensational, 'Acid and Bass'.

SENSATIONAL Born into the world of beats as Torture, a name befitting his dusted productions and not-ready-for-prime-time style, Torture linked up with the Jungle Brothers when he was just 15. Check out "Ra Ra Kid" from the Crazy Wisdom Masters 10-inch on Black Hoodz. Originally recorded for Warner Brothers in 1992, this stuff is still way ahead of his time. In 1995, Torture came to the attention of WordSound through Bill Laswell. It was then that he started recording his debut solo effort, Loaded With Power (WSCD022), an album like no other. CMJ called it, "The most bold and experimental hip-hop record of the last couple of years"...

MENTOL NOMAD Musical designer of the spirit and true castaway on the vast oceans of the Mind. Capable of traversing many terrains, combining ambient atmospheres with crackling beats, leaden basslines, euphoric samples and electronic washes, seething layers of sound which mutate with each passing moment like radioactive decay. On a mission beyond the within, masterpieces of downtempo darkness, covered with a veil of light. Soundtracks to the dreams of a man with much on his mind. A sound vibration into the unknown, heavy, hypnotic, esoteric, trance-inducing, and conjuring of dream states, subtle, morbid and lethal...
